Please contact the rescue group referenced directly for adoption information. Thank you for considering a rescue Akita!

Black Knight kennel frequently fosters for our partners in rescue;  any dog currently in residence with us will have a notation to that effect and arrangments to meet and greet can be made with us. All adoption paperwork however must be completed with the rescue group directly and while we may suggest a placement would be a good match, all decisions rest solely with the rescue group.

We will make every effort to keep this list current. Sadly, these are not the only Akitas in need of a new home but we've tried to list at least a few from each organization to try to help find them a home like yours.  Please visit their own websites for a full list of adoptable dogs.

ADOPTED!!!!!! 07/02/16!
Foxy @ Big East Akita Rescue
Baby Foxy is looking for her forever home :) Baby Foxy is a 5 month old female akita who comes to BEAR via Zac's Mission. Foxy is looking for her forever family that will love and adore her for many years to come. Foxy has been taught how to walk on leash , and is fully house broken and crate trained . She could go into a home with the right male , or even a cat with a little bit of work.

Brolly @ Big East Akita Rescue
Brolly Bear has arrived. Brolly was left at the Pittsboro , NC animal shelter by his owner, no reason given. Brolly has made lots of friends as he made his way up into NJ ! This fellow is playful, and full of energy. He should go to a home with akita experience and as a only pet. Thank you to our friends Sarah Parrish , Henry Hamilton, Terry Mozingo Head and Pet Palace for taking great care of Brolly for us !!

Taylor @ Big East Akita Rescue * SENIOR *
Dear to my heart are the seniors. Meet Taylor . When we had went to pull Bria a young female akita from a West Va shelter we spotted this old girl, so sweet , gentle, quiet and totally lost as to why she was in a shelter . Call me a sucker, I could not take young Bria and leave this older girl behind. Well here is Taylor, she was wonderful at the vets, great around the other dogs and just sweet and gentle. She is house broken, minds well, good on leash and not a lick of trouble. She needs some love ....Will you share her in hopes she can find a forever home ?

Bria @ Big East Akita Rescue
Bria from West Va Before and after. Amazing what good food & vet care can do . 2 year female , social and out going. Will be looking for a home to call her own. She is turning into a very pretty girl :)

Czar @ Big East Akita Rescue
Be still My heart ...this boy is not only gorgeous but is a love . He is five years old , has lived with a female Akita in the past and would most likely live with the right female using a slow intro . No cats . He has lived with children also . Big boy has to be close to 120 pounds. Look at the size of that head and that sweet face . Yes I got to kiss him first and I am going to tell all about it !

Takeo @ Big East Akita Rescue
Happy big silly boy about a year old , knows some basic commands . Very people friendly and would love a nice female buddy to play with . Neutered , all shots , heart worm neg and chipped .

Bonded Pair Belle and Sammy @ RIAR
Belle is approximately 5 years old (born Feb 2010-ish), spayed, microchipped, up to date on her vaccines, heartworm negative, on flea/heartworm prevention, house trained, and crate trained. Sammy is approximately 7 years old (born Feb 2008-ish), neutered, microchipped, up to date on her vaccines, heartworm negative, on flea/heartworm prevention, house trained, and crate trained. Belle and Sammy were found together in a house in Delaware that had been abandoned for weeks. They were discovered after neighbors heard barking and called the local animal control. We brought them into our rescue in 2012, they were adopted, and returned to rescue in June of 2015 because their former family was military and are being stationed over seas. These two will need to go to a home together with no other pets

Bonded Pair Dina & Moses @ RIAR
Dina and Moses are young adult (Dina born approximately 5.15.14, and Moses approximately 5.15.13) Akita. They are heartworm negative, on flea/heartworm prevention, up to date on vaccines, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. They come to us from a shelter in York, SC where they were surrendered by an owner who could no longer care for them. They are very sweet with people and VERY bonded to each other!

Mason @ RIAR
Mason was owner surrendered to Chesapeake Animal Services because his family said they could no longer afford to care for him. Mason is a 6 year old adult male (born 5-13-10), is neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. He would be best in a home without dogs, cats, or kids

Akiko @RIAR
Akiko is an approximately 6 year old spayed female Akita. She is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm negative, on flea/heartworm prevention, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. Akiko was found running stray in Richmond and bounced around between a few homes before ending up in a local shelter. She is very friendly with people and calm with other dogs. She can even go to daycare. This adorable girl has a quirky, short little tail. It does curl enough to touch her back when she gets excited. She would do well as an only dog, or with the right large male dog.

Kaye @ ARSF
This super sweet three year old beauty is looking for a more sedate family. She enjoys walks in familiar places and hanging out with those she loves. Playful, but also reserved, she would respond best with a sensitive, quiet owner. Totally housebroken and crate trained.

Charlie Rango @ ARSF
Charlie is fun, fun, fun! He has the love of life that children do and every day is a new and exciting adventure! As he bounds effortlessly over the ground, rolling and jumping, he executes a gravity defying leap and quarter turn, landing gracefully and never missing a stride. Charlie needs an owner who can set limits and train him. If you have kids who are athletic or if you have a lot of active energy yourself and are willing take the time in to train him, Charlie is the dog for you!

Rosa @ ARSF
Despite having been adopted and then not taken, Rosa maintains great spirits. Although upset the family did not take her, she loves people and walks. She's sort of silly for a 6 year old, but will lean on you to give you a great hug and cuddle.

Redd Foxx @ ARSF
This stunning five year old has the heart of a comedian and the soul of a hero. Warm and loving with friends, he could be the perfect jogging buddy of someone who does their runs at night or someone who enjoys camping in the woods. Protector of home and hearth, yet trainable and sound of mind, Redd Foxx is looking for a best buddy with whom to share many good times.
