You won't see a page like this on other breeder's sites. Why? They don't have the guts to put the truth out there for the public, are too scared to 'get involved' or don't have the strength to put up with harassment and threats from the people you shouldn't be buying from (not if you want an ethical breeder). My daddy raised me better than that- and I couldn't live with myself if I knew sitting down and shutting up will hurt someone, not when I could have stopped it. So here's info you need to make an informed decision. We don't do this to promote sales of our own dogs- it's a rare day we have any litters planned. We're just trying to save the dogs- and save uninformed buyers from themselves.
Who not to buy from and why.
All information obtained by BKAA was obtained through LEGAL PUBLIC RECORDS searches. Yes, it took time and a lot of leg work- most information is not available over the phone.
* Re: John Chance Aka Tim Chance, Mineral Bluff GA
UPDATE!!!!!!!!! 03/20/17 DREAMWEAVER AKITAS HAS NO STATE PET DEALER LICENSE. This is confirmed with a copy of the documentation (and inspection reports from the last year) in hand! This means that they cannot engage in transactions for dogs produced or acquired, either for sale OR adoption, with the sole exemption of a single litter in a twelve month period(which tye have already exceeded) . After a lengthy inspection by state and local officials in early January, James Fooshe Geer, managing partner for the "company" that "owns" Dreamweaver Akitas with John Tim Chance, surrendered the pet dealer license for the facility on Cutcane Rd in Mineral Bluff. In that document, Geer acknowledges that he and the kennel may not engage in any activities of a pet dealer. Any transaction in violation is a separate misdemeanor. Ads soliciting dogs for sale or adoption by these individuals can be reported to Georgia Department of Agriculture's Companion Animal Division with the heading "acting as a pet dealer without a license"
**UPDATES 09/16/14 NEW ADDRESS- MINERAL BLUFF GA operating with James F. Geer under names "Mountain Creek Ranch LLC" and "Dreamweaver Akitas" As of today, after an inspection at the new location, the Stop Order has been lifted (source: Mark Murragh, Dept of Agriculture)
It is our hope that this is the start of a better, safer life for these dogs. We remain watchful, however, especially in light of the extent of the living conditions exposed at the prior residence (photos provided anonymously, due diligence research suports that these are in fact from the Cochran address and recent) and Chance's attitude on what constitutes appropriate care and husbandry pratices. We'll keep you informed as new verifiable information comes our way.
UPDATE: the hope that the new facility would give these dogs a decent life was in vain. Photos available on request- due to their graphic nature I will not post them publicly- they contain: Dogs pastern deep in wet waste; Rats and small animals also on site killed by the rat infestation; Massive holes in fencing and under the concrete slabs; An open sewer of waste; Large piles of feces; Indoor floors per State Ag Dept report "soaked with urine and feces"; Neighboring pets mauled to death on multiple occasions; Video of a dead fly covered puppy left near a nursing dam and her own separate puppies. A pre tral agreement on four outstnading charges for the maulings and deaths was reached, however the operator of the facility (and owner of the anmals themselves) has failed to comply. In the report for one of those mauling deaths, the chief ACO for the county states that during his investigation speaking with Mr. Chance at the property, Mr. Chance stated he had left the dog's body in his car for 20 hours, then put it in his freezer for 3 hours. Additonal police reports, citations and vioaltion notices also available on request. ALL information obtained legally from FOIA requests or publicly posted by the owner and operator of this "kennel". You can obtain our own copies by contacting the custodian of records for Bleckley Couty GA (Nicole Pope, 911 Services) , Fanin County GA (Rita Kirby, county clerk) or the GA State Dept of Agriculture ( Laura Frank). A small fee may apply for staff time, copying and mailing costs from each agency.
Additonal warnings- per the operator of the site, anything posted from his email, social media or on the commercial website could have been posted by third parties pretending to be him. In the interests of reducing possibility of fraud or invalid contracts, consumers should insist on face to face transactions, with identification, only. Also utilize EXTREME CAUTION in bringing persons under 18 years of age to the facility- it is widely and frequently advertised by the resident operator as what could only politely be described as a "sex tourism destination", which is "open all day" for the purposes of anonymous sexual activities, with a building for these activities in close proximity to the kennels. While what occurs between consenting adults is between them, this information is posted for the purpose of a prevailing public safety interest to protect minors from potential explicit situations since the site is used as a commercial breeding and sales facility. The owner of the property is well aware of these advertisements and activities conducted by the resident operator We advise you to make an INFORMED decision on this matter and act as you see fit.
I have personally spoken a number of times with Mr Chance and read his own statements about the conditions of his animals and the problems he has on site with containment and management. Dogs are horribly injured and heavily scarred due to constant fighting. Mr Chance allows numerous dogs to run at large with each other often "waking up to a fight". More recently, he took an injured bitch he has reported as being in at least five major fight/bite incidents and kenneled her with two puppies, who she then atacked. Mr Chance keeps contacting breeders across the US and abroad to buy dogs non stop. He has told several he has no dogs and told others that he has a very limited number. We've been able to confirm at least one dozen and possible up to twenty four juveniles and adults on site, including 2 GSDs and a Neopolitan Mastiff (plus a few dozen small mammals and some exotic birds). He has a litter of 6 puppies approx 4 months old as of this posting (January) and a new litter on the ground. Based on my conversations with him and his reports of injuries to the animals and their care in his custody, it is my opinion that the dogs are in immediate danger. Appropriate LE agencies have been notified.
*UPDATE- we are currently working with local authorities on this case. We will provide information as soon as it is available for public release. What we can tell you- Animal control counted at least 58 adults and juveniles on site. The state they were unable to see all the animals. We continue to support LE efforts to take action in this case.
** UPDATE local authorioties have confirmed that Mr Chance has moved twice and "disposed of" all but 6 of his akitas after action by the state department of agriculture. Further complaints or information on continued breeding activities in violation of their action should be addressed to the GA Agriculture Department. If anyone has information on the whereabouts of the "disposed" dogs, please conact us- several breeders who were fooled by his fraudulent claims to buy dogs from their kennels desperately want their animals back unharmed.
UPDATE**** FEB 2014- WE HAVE OBTAINED A NUMBER OF RECORDS FROM THE BLECKLEY COUNTY GA SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT AND A COPY OF AN INSPECTION REPORT FROM THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE THROUGH A FREEDOM OF IMFORMATION ACT REQUEST. AS OF 08/5/13 MR CHANCE WAS PLACED UNDER A STOP ORDER BY THE DEPT. OF AGRICULTURE FOR HIS ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES. THE POLICE REPORTS/CITATIONS ARE MUCH MORE DISTURBING- MULTIPLE ATTACKS ON NEIGHBORING PETS, LIVESTOCK AND PEOPLE. THESE DOCUMENTS ARE AVAILABLE PUBLICLY ON MY FACEBOOK PAGE IN AN ALBUM TITLED "SCREENSHOTS & DOCUMENTS- JOHN CHANCE" TO ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO VIEW THEM AND WILL BE SHARED BY EMAIL OR FAX WITH ANY INDIVIDUAL WHO WOULD LIKE A COPY. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE POLICE REPORTS REFERENCE SERIOUS INJURIES AND THE DEATHS OF ANIMALS AND MAY BE UPSETTING TO READ.
ADDITIONAL REPORTS ARE FORTHCOMING AS THESE AGENCIES REVIEW AND COLLATE THE RECORDS.
Re: Arctic Akitas, Alaska, owner "Melissa"
This individual came to our attention through her own postings to a public akita networking site. She readily admits to breeding underage (as young as 8 months) dogs, without health clarances, who are left tied out on "lunge lines", and brags on her site about choosing an unregistered, non health tested stud dog purely on color. Her postings contain odd statements about breeding "modified purebreds"- we assume this is a new euphemism for MUTT, and throwing dogs together to "see what happens", ""survival of the fittest". Is THIS what you want to bring home to your family????
If you're looking for an unregistrered, genetic lottery ticket of a dog, save the $500-$1200 she asks for on her site and go adopt a rescue!
** update- according to her new blog at www.arcticakitas.blogspot.com, she's already got two matings accomplished for this year so far. This is AFTER she claimed on the Yahoo group "Akita Network" that she was going to 1) spay and neuter all her non AKC registered dogs and 2) conduct health certifications prior to breeding. That little "change of heart" title she posted sure didn't last long, did it? Nope, just long enough to make some money, because the puppies who are just little blastocysts by the time I'm writing this message are already being advertised for between $1000 and $1500 each. That's right, own your very pwn little peice of who knows what for the bargain basement price of fifteen hundred bucks! and if you act now, you can even buy a puppy from her second litter, unregistered, for only $500. Such a deal! Again, I remind my gentle readers that you could get the same quality at any rescue or public shelter. If no verifiable lineage and no health certifications are ok with you, they've got plenty of dogs for you at the pound! Now if you want to spend thatmoney wisely on multiple generationsof health tested parents, grandparents and greats, with champion titles and ROM designations, I can give you some referrals to fantasic breeders across the US. Sadly, I have nothing to sell you of my own until at least 2015 but help locating a quality reputable breeder is always FREE to you from Black Knight!
At Black Knight we are not afraid of the truth, and if by providing this information freely to the breed community we save EVEN ONE DOG or EVEN ONE PERSON from the same heartache and abuse suffered by others, we have done our duty to our breed and to the public.
This is our mission. Let the attacks come, we can take it.
Truth is our armor.
